Folding T-Shirt and Engineer

I don't think the video is meant to be funny. But I did have a hearty laugh at the end of it. Not really sure why though.

Perhaps it's the bouncy music that made me keep expecting a man with a funny hat and a cute moustache in black and white to pop into the video and show me how to fold a t-shirt; or the seriousness of the video in showing the exact measurement of each component of the contraption, and the diagram too; or the slap on my forehead upon the realisation at the end of the video of why on earth didn't I think of that. Not sure.

But I'm quite sure if I saw the genius behind this brilliant idea smiling smugly at the end of the video, I would die laughing. Don't know why, but I would.

The only thing funnier than the hurdler was probably the lack of any kind of reaction from those at the event.

Nice Throw In

To throw a football that would land into the penalty area from the last quarter sideline would be a rare feat even for a grown up football player - male or female.

Although not for a 17-years old Brazilian players named Leah Lynn Gabriela Forutne.

You Got Talents?

Heard of Susan Boyle? Well, she's been buzzing around the net at the moment. In case you missed it here's the link to YouTube:

I was close to tears, no, tears were welling up to the brim, at the end of the clip, moved, like at the rousing and inspiring end of a movie.

I think a lot of elements had brought such high emotions from this audition. Firstly, her first impression had lowered everyone's expectation of her - her face, her hair, her clothing, her mannerism, the fact that she comes from a "collection of villages" and, her age. After she lowered everyone's expectation, she announced her seemingly unattainable dream to the world - to be as good as Elaine Page. That drew cynical expressions all around the hall. All these transcended nicely into the atmosphere of an underdog going into the fight of her life; a simple country woman wanting to make it big in the world stage. To add another strung of incredulous tension to the bow, she chose a "big" song from a famous musical, I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserabs. And the melodic introductory strings started to fill the air in the hall.

Like an inspiring movie, the underdog turned around every cynicism, every contemptuous smile, every negative snort of her with her first note sung.

From then on, as she kept singing with her powerful, inspiring voice, the emotions of the crowd peaked, and stayed peaked. The waves of emotions grew stronger and stronger until at the end, a standing ovation. Against all odds, the underdog had done it.

Against the continuing epic music in the background, when the judges gave their high praises, and she reacted with pure, undisguised overjoy, my tears never subsided, inspired by this simple woman, as endearing as my own aunt.

Beatboxing Flute

To play a flute, you need a pair of lips and a lung that can blow out breathes in variable length. You would require the same set of instrument plus your tongue, voice, and more if you want to beatbox. But to do it at the same time?

I came across the following YouTube video while blog-hopping. To heighten your amazement, click play at the following clip and close your eyes, or switch to another screen to firstly listen to the music. Then watch the replay to be amazed.






If you can't get enough of this amazing piece of music, don't worry. Apparently this guy have a few songs in his repertoire. And he's not the only one! But, by looking at the dates, it does seem that he's the first to come up with this amazing technique. Search "beatboxing flute" at YouTube, and enjoy.
